Hurricane Michelle

(November 5, 2001). Happy to report that there was not much damage done to the Island by
Hurricane Mchelle. Flooding around some low lying areas like Ma Rubys, and one tree
was down on Colebrooke St. As of 9 am Monday the storm seems to have broken
up, although the forcasters are saying the eye is just over nassau. Here in
HI we are feeling light breezes, 25 to 30 mph gusts ,and drizzles.

The beach seems to have done very well, even with the pounding surf. There
has been no significant errosion , and most structures, tikis, and stairways
leading to the water are still in tact.

Residents helped each other store water, pull up boats, and shutter homes in preperation. The Hurricane Comittee included H I chief administrator Williams, and town counsul members Chief counsal Harvey Roberts, and counsal member Ms Eloise Knowles.
